You should notify the DVLA when the vehicle is removed – If you do not have a logbook then you will be required to send a letter along with a copy of the disposal form to the DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BD.
Before collection you need to clear all contents from your vehicle and remove the tax disc if you wish to claim a refund. You must then complete section 9 on your logbook (V5 Document) and send it to the DVLA. If you do not have the V5 then you must notify them in writing (Always recorded post).

We can scrap your car without the logbook V5 document. However it is important that you notify the DVLA with a covering letter that you have scrapped your vehicle. You might also want to print an extra copy of our vehicle surrender form and post that to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1BD.
When your application has been approved by the DVLA, you will receive a V778 Retention Document. Don’t sell or scrap your vehicle till you receive this document!
